OP, this depends on your daughter likes... What is she into? My kids are younger so I’m not well versed in what’s popular with older kids. As long as she keeps it small - bath bombs, slime, water bottle, whatever they like - just a small thinking of you gift.
I'm honestly shocked that this is a thing.
I would never be embarrassed if I gave a gift and the other person did not, nor would I be if I received one but didn't give one.
IMO, it's more embarrassing when you give a gift and the other person, who has no intention of giving you anything, sputters and says something like "I have yours at home" or "Yours is on the way!" and then you're later given something very generic that you know was quickly purchased as a reciprocation gift.
Gift giving is not quid pro quo.
