That's not acceptable. If a police officer sees someone, fine, give them a ticket, but I've seen those pics of drivers and it's so not okay that we are being photographed in our cars. At least if you're speeding there's a legitimate reason to have taken the shot of your car, but how are they doing to figure out what cars to take pictures of? Just capture everyone and sift through them?
Creepy as hell. No way would I approve of this. Montgomery County, MD.
Love my MoCo! Best county ever! You should be in prison, not posting here.
I don't text and drive. That's not the issue. Have you seen the pics they showed on the news of people in their cars? It is unreal what a creepy police state we are living in these days. This is a free country. People should willingly obey the laws, not obey them because they are being filmed by the state. That is just wrong.
If you don’t want your picture taken stay home with the shades drawn. Every other driver on my morning commute has a phone in their hand. I’m floored there aren’t more accidents. If this is what it takes to get people to put their phones down good, do it.
Yeah that's the thing isn't it. There aren't more accidents. This isn't about preventing accidents, it's about making more money.
Actually there are lots and lots of accidents.
No western country has anywhere close to the number of traffic fatalities per capita that we have in the US.
There are actually quite a few studies now showing that using a phone while driving is more dangerous than driving drunk:
https://www.cnbc.com/id/31545004
But freedom. Or something.
I have $5,000 cash that says I'm a better driver with a cel phone in hand than you are driving drunk.
We can test this. We can know this answer for certain. Closed course, private property. Legal waivers. Under supervision. We will both drive an identical car around an identical course, with identical surprise challenges. I'll talk on the phone with the phone held to my ear for two laps, and do two more laps while texting short responses to one sentence texts. You will drive with a blood alcohol level of .12, the statistical average level of all DUI crashes.
I put up $5,000 cash.
You put up $5,000 cash.
Then we see who's right.
Whaddya say?
Anonymous wrote:In Maryland, it is lawful to have the phone in hand to dial a number or when used as a GPS. It also is lawful to make certain calls an send certain texts (911 calls for example). Hence, a photograph showing an individual merely holding a cell phone while driving would not be proof of any offense.

Bingo.
Why are cops exempt from the law against phone use while driving? If it was unsafe, police wouldn't be doing it either. And if it IS unsafe, why do we allow cops to do it?

BTW - if you are texting while driving, they sure as shit better ticket your ass, and a big one too! at least $500.
Anonymous wrote:I agree with op that it is creepy and inappropriate. There are a lot of things people do in a car that are illegal and no one has ever called for pictures to be taken. We’re not a police state and we shouldn’t allow local politicians to turn us into one.
