There's a lot going on here, but OP, if you re unhappy with the leftist utopia of Montgomery County, I encourage you to move somewhere where conservative principles have been given free rein. I think Kansas just went hard right - can you report on how that is going?

Can you explain why you describe Montgomery County as a leftist utopia?

While Montgomery County has its problems, it is no secret that other parts of the country are doing much, much worse. So it makes sense that people also tout its merits in comparison to the places that actually voted for Trump. Let's be honest. Many trump areas are jealous of the money in Montgomery County. They see the DC area like the capital is shown in the Hunger Games. Except only the federal government actually controls parts of these places. Montgomery County government doesn't. I have many friends in Montgomery County who are very conservative and I ask them why they live in such a liberal place and they say they love the services here and the jobs available. Enough said. That doesn't mean there can't be improvement and that there aren't hypocrites in this area, however OP is wrong to say that Montgomery County brought us Donald Trump at least in the way it is meant as if Montgomery County is doing something terrible that has major influence over other areas of the country that must be stopped.

I only agree with you about Marc Elrich. Most of the Council this time around is more or less tolerable. I’m glad to see the likes of Leventhal gone.
I think most of MOCo is socially liberal and tolerant and fiscally moderate. I’d personally like to see some more economic development along with all the social justice symbolism. One isn’t much without the other.
Marc Elrich does NOT represent the majority of Montgomery County voters. He represents the unions (the union bosses, not even the workers necessarily) and his select inner circle and his sycophants. He’s kind of like a left wing Trump. A fat angry old man who doesn’t care about you.
I registered as a Democrat (I’m a libertarian/leaning independent) specifically to vote against his fat arse and will do so again.

The working class peopleI know. And that’s most of my neighbors, people I go to church with, and socialize with are very grateful to live in MoCo. Many lived elsewhere before and are happy with all the services available here.

This.

Nobody will actually defend the crappy policies that MoCo leadership has put into place, but they are sure to attack you.

Oooo! Can I play??

I’d like the school system to get rid of the ‘progressive’ Restorative Justice practices and go back to an actual system where kids are disciplined for poor behavior, regardless of race/religion/sexual orientation.

Can we get some liberal Democrats to support that?

EXACTLY. Republicans and a majority of college educated White women.

There are most definitely white “liberals” living in the wealthiest areas preaching from their sanctimonious perches about racism and equity— all the while living as far as they can from the people who need the so-called equity.

I don't think there are that many white wealthy people in Potomac who preach about equality. Not sure where you are getting that from.

As has been pointed out many times, county council is mostly made up of folks from Silver Spring/TP area, not Potomac. Wealthy areas don't seem happy with the county council.

Takoma Park and Silver Spring aren't wealthy? Please.

First of all, the ^^PP only referred to Potomac and Bethesda, and secondly, it's like having whiplash.. some on here claim SS is ganglandia and now you say is not wealthy.

SS/TP has some wealthy people, but no local person would claim that area is wealthy. You can't be local to MoCo, then.

TP/SS are wealthy and the people who live there voted for the Council and Executive to serve them. They are rich white social justice warriors and people in Potomac and Bethesda just roll along with it.

So, if they are wealthy, white social justice warriors, and they voted for a council who wants equity, how are those folks " preaching from sanctimonious perches"? Seems to me they are voting for what they are preaching - equity.

I don't see your logic.

Now, Potomac IMO is a different story. That area actually leans conservative, and although they voted blue in the last election, the margin there was much smaller than in SS/TP area. About 40% in Potomac voted for Trump, whereas in SS/TP, about 8% did.

Not the OP, but I live in MoCo. I very much would like my local government and the federal government to address the problem of illegal immigration. It is number one on my list.

I would like MoCo leadership to encourage it’s workers to cooperate with ICE, instead of standing firm against ICE and allowing criminals (who are illegal immigrants) to get away with their crimes.

Obama was the toughest on immigration and Clinton would have continued his efforts, it's Trump that f'd it up. Obama deported more people than any other president and more people voluntarily moved to Mexico from the US than the other way around.

Steven Bannon is what brought us Donald Trump. He researched an untapped vein of voters and then found someone who pandered to their wishes. Nothing more than that. Anyone who really thinks Trump has anything at all in common with is base is a fool.

I like Montgomery County just fine. Also can't wait for Trump to be booted out of office or voted out, whichever comes first.
