My Grandparents used to send a check. I later learned that my parents used that check to sponsor a family. We would all be assigned a kid our age to shop for. Grandma and Grandpa also gave us all savings bonds every year so we got something from them. We just didn't get a toy. My Mom later explained that we had enough and other kids had nothing, that it was better for us to share as a family instead of getting more from ourselves. I would have protested at 7-12 but as an older teen, when I learned about this, I was cool with it.

We don't count the number. We try and set a dollar limit that fits our budget. That limit covers stockings, Santa, and Mom and Dad. It includes books, socks and undies (Santa always brings socks and undies don't know), and toys. DS pile looks huge but he gets 6-10 books, each individually wrapped, smaller toys like Minescraft action figures, and games.

He will get a gift from an Aunt and Uncle and a couple of gifts from both sets of Grandparents.

I don’t count and haven’t ever compared between the years, but there’s a good amount and she’s never complained. Probably at least 20 presents if I had to guess. Presents come from us/Santa, grandparents, aunts & uncles.

The will then get a gift from two different aunts (one is $25 and one is $50) and about $250 of girders or cash from grandparents excluding 529 money. I shop all year essentially so there are an obscene amount of presents - however they get very few during the rest of the year (except on bdays).
