Like all, but Jennifer - way too many of those around, although perhaps not in the baby generation. Neither of them rocks my world, but they are all solid, if somewhat safe and boring names. If I had to pick one, I'd go with Ellen.

NP, Ellen was my grandmother's name and it would mean a LOT to my mom to honor her. My concern is that Ellie, Ella, Elle are SO popular that it will get lumped in with those.

PP with 4 y/o Ellen, she's also named after my grandmother and they LOVE both being Ellens. And in pre-k and daycare, the teachers would always lump Ellie/Ella together and then noted that hers was different and unique. <3

Thanks good to know!

LOL my name & middle name, and my sister's name made the list. Guess our parents did a good job with classic, timeless names for us.

My personal preference from your list in order:
Elizabeth
Claire
Katherine

Laura- Ok, pretty and classic, just not my favorite
Ellen- Pretty, not sure I would love on a child.
Katherine- Like a lot. It's pretty on it's own and has good nickname options if DD chooses to experiment.
Jennifer - No, way too many Jennifer, Jen's, and Jenny's
Elizabeth- Eh, so common and I've just never liked the way it looks or sounds
Claire- My second favorite- I've always loved the sound of the name and all the Claire's I've met have been genuinely kind people
Anna- My favorite of the list- classic, pretty, not heard often

Just do your kid a favor and pick one that five other kids won't have in her class. (based on popularity).

- Jennifer, 1971

Happy naming!

I'm a 1976 Laura, and have had no trouble with people mispronouncing my name. 99.9% of the time people get it right (LOR-ah; LAH-rah is spelled Lara). I love my name: it's strong and classic and not often heard.

Anna is great, too.

I'm a Laura too and growing up Lauren was SUPER popular and people constantly mixed up my name and called me Lauren. Eww.

And whomever said Ellen is an ugly name (you suck, lol), it's my mother's name and while it may sound harsher than a name ending in "a" or "y" it is a sophisticated name. The Ellens i've known however are baby boomers. So it's a less common name today and therefore could be a really great choice.

I like Laura best. Elizabeth and Katherine are both good with lots of nickname options. Jennifer is starting to have some retro charm (I would call her Jenny).

All classic, none are bad. More specific:

Laura -- love it; it's perfect, and never overused.

Ellen -- also love it.

Katherine -- like it, just can't get excited about it.

Jennifer -- too '70s.

Elizabeth -- also a perfect name. Are you thinking of any nickname possibilities?

Claire -- I'm a little bored with it.

Anna -- also a perfect name, but I'm a little bored with this, too.

Some combos I like: Laura Elizabeth, Laura Claire, Laura Katherine, Ellen Elizabeth, Elizabeth Ellen.
