Every game. etc. I think this particular scholarship or two allows families to be less invested in the team. If we had a paying player in that spot, we would be able to add a tournament or two maybe add winter futsal or add more winter indoor training. etc. I think scholarships should not only be based on financial need but also commitment, value to the team, etc. But in general, scholarships are necessary. Soccer shouldn't be a rich kid sport.

Wow it would really be surprising to find out the kid on scholarship's parent(s) work(s) two menial jobs to try to survive. Maybe instead of being a jerk about it you could offer rides to help get him to practice and games.

the parent’s should have had better paying jobs or went to school

'Parents', not 'parent's'

But yeah, they're the ones that should have gone to school...

Between my 2 kids with travel soccer alone, I pay $6k. It is ridiculous. My parents would not have been able to afford to have all 3 of us play travel soccer. We are fortunate we played in the 80s. Btw, the product my kids are receiving isn't any better than the coaches/training I had as a kid. Most of our coaches came to the States on soccer scholarship and stayed to work, coach, etc.

So why do you do it? Just don't.

Its not ok for me to pay for my child and her teammate plays for free. Especially if it takes away from Childs playing time. I know the pay to play system does always allow for the best kids to play. But until that is fixed if I'm forced to pay for my child to play at a higher level so should the other girls parents.

The other kid made the team if it’s travel. People donate to help the scholarships so none of your bidness. Stay in your lane.
Parent who pays extra to ensure scholarships available.

My club is similar. We have a couple of scholarship players and they are highly committed and strong players. I am so happy that a (relatively insignificant) contribution on my part helps a little kid be able to play soccer. Our system is ridiculous.

Truer words have not been spoken in this forum. Apparently, Karen and Chad haven't received the requisite groveling.

You aren’t getting a scholarship unless you are a solid player on the first team. That my friend is merit based.

Not at my DD’s club. Need based. Second team kids are on scholarship too.

Isn’t that always the general criteria for being selected to a team in the first place? Aren’t all players selected based on the expectation or potential to be solid contributors?
