I am amused the OP is going to move from this horribly run area.....once he’s done taking advantage of the horribly run public schools!

Just another cheap bastard who doesn’t want to pay his fair share in taxes.

I agree with OP - and I sent all three of my kids to private schools because they were very poor at meeting the needs of my bright kids as the years went on.

So your kids were not bright enough for TJ but they were too bright for the AP/IB programs that are offered in EVERY high school in the county? Most of the "red" counties only offer the majority of AP courses ONLINE. Have fun with that. Fairfax also has the academies for any high school student who is interested in a myriad of vocational and specialized art/performance curriculum. With free transportation. I doubt your private school can come close on that.

Do you feel that your interests are not being served at the county level in some way? I find that most things that the county does are not impacted greatly by whether an R or a D is in office (parks, rec centers, schools, street work, fire, police, dog catcher, etc.).

I guess you could move further out (like Stafford county)?

+1

Once you get further out than Fairfax, it's all red.

Warren County, for example. Ahem.

Yes, I work with someone who lives in Warren County and complains about the schools all the time. I guess they don't like to pay for the schools out there.

Clearly the teacher's union in Warren Co. isn't doing enough to import more gang members and ESOL students. I'll bet if the schools had a higher MS13 presence your coworker would be delighted

My coworker is a teacher in Fairfax County. We are both teachers. I think she knows the difference between the schools in the two counties given that her kids go to the Warren County schools and she sees the difference in support all the time. One example is that FCPS has career/college counselors at each high school to help ANY student who wants help with post-secondary decisions. Warren does not. She cites other things as well. Also there's a reason she is driving into Fairfax for work.

To be clear, Falls Church City was already an independent town within Fairfax since the 1880s. They separated from Fairfax County in the 1940s. I believe with the consent of Fairfax County which was not interested in making the investments in schools that Falls Church wanted.
