I watch both. I love the 80’s references in Mixed-ish. When the episode started with Dre’ talking about Breakin’ being a classic, I turned to my kids and said, “See, it’s not just me”. They are growing up bi-racial in a predominantly white neighborhood so their experiences are very different from my experiences growing up in a predominantly black neighborhood. Sometimes it’s a gateway to talk about what happens in the episode and sometimes it is just fun to watch. The episode on Mixed-ish about Cultural Day at school brought back the memories of Internal Day at their elementary school a few years ago. I remember having to decide for them what country to represent and how it feels when you’ve lost the link from the country of origin due to slavery and have to define “your culture”.

I definitely don’t think it’s intended to target white viewers only. How many white viewers even recognized the Girlfriends cast reunion a few weeks ago? Not many I imagine.

I am white and loooovvvvvveeeeddddd Girlfriends. It's actually why I started watching black-ish because of 'Joan'. That reunion made me and my husband laugh. That being said, most of my friends (who are white) have no idea what Girlfriends is.

I loved that show too.

Ha me too! I have a newborn and have been catching reruns in the middle of the night over the last month.

My 14 year-old-son loves Blackish. He has been watching it from the beginning and always ask, "is there a new Blackish"?

I didn’t care for the premiere of Mixedish but IIRC Blackish took a few episodes to find its groove in Season 1. I thought the hair and interracial dating episodes were pretty good.

It has a good supporting cast (starring? I think MPG is top billing but feel like all we do is see him cleaning). And the kid actors are entertaining but pretty flat.
