I like them but I wish we had more time. It is difficult to find time to talk with my DCs’ teachers normally so I like meeting with them one on one.

We get 15 minutes. Our fourth-grader has four core teachers. You get to meet with one. It's a complete waste of time.

I have young kids (preK4 and K) and find them useful. I don't have strong expectations for what kids their age should know and be able to do, so like the feedback. And, I like to learn how they behave for teachers and with their classroom peers.

Ours isn't until later November. Our charter has 1.5 days where there is no school but conferences and time for parents to visit the school and get info. that might otherwise have been missed. Aftercare runs during those times.

Deal sent home mid-advisory assessments last week (but it only said what was already on Aspen). This is my second child there. With my last child there I always went to the first conferences to meet the teacher and get a handle on how they know my child and I will do the same for my second middle schooler. I never went to the later in the year conferences because there were no specific issues. I always went to every elementary school conference, mainly I was checking up on social and non academic development issues. Always good to be engaged. I now have one in high school and we are only going to a conference in the class this child is struggling in a bit.

This is true. It would be more helpful to have a summary prior to the appointments. But then many parents wouldn't respect the appointment and be stopping teachers with questions prior. Lol. If it was anything like my dcps the teachers were filling in the assessment during the meeting... Or just saying they had not had time to complete it all.. So... Yep totally useless.

Every employer in DC has to allow 24 hours of leave for parents to attend school-related activities. It doesn't have to be paid leave but if you have the paid leave time they have to allow you to take it in most circumstances.

This is great. Except for folks that can not afford a day witouth pay. Or for those on contract and those that are other wise not meeting the requirements for the time off. And those that work in Maryland or Virginia. But good for DC for trying to make the city a better place to work for families.
