But what about Poolesville HS? Rezoning or closing?

Yeah Poolesville regularly ranks as the best high school in the entire state so I guess MCPS must shut it down.

Except for all the football hazing.

We can definitely say you're not a MCPS parent

When half of the students at a high school are only at the high school because of their high test scores, the test scores of that high school tend to be high.

But no. No rezoning. No closing. That would be true even if the city of Poolesville weren't pushing MCPS/the county for a new high school building that also includes a community center and health clinic.

The BOE is supposed to vote on the SVHS options in November. If it's important to you, then it might be worth waiting a few months. My husband and I were house hunting in January/February of 2014. There is still some time after the BOE makes a decision and before the spring season ramps up.

Since getting rezoned is not a hazard, it doesn't really make sense to talk about being "safe" from it.

Rezone is a hazard if you pay $600K for a house and a few months later it is worth $525K

+1 It would be fiscally irresponsible to buy without considering the financial consequences.

I mean, the economy is only going down (though we don't know how far) so buying an expensive home waaaay out there is a bad bet anyway. They'll lose value over the next 5 years. I'd wait until things look bad to buy during a dip.

People who buy SFHs need to look much longer term than 5 years. That's so early 2000s.

As a PP mentioned, I'm really talking about Germantown/South Germantown. Whatever you want to call it. Basically, the area around the SoccerPlex.

Poolesville is quite a bit further out. It would significantly increase the commutes for both my spouse and I, and complicate our ability to find other jobs within a reasonable commuting distance.

Your money definitely goes farther out in Poolesville. It was looking tempting until I started mapping out commutes.
