They are worth it because you posters saying that have younger kids. I have an older kid who likes the 16+ kits that are hundreds of dollars. He would finish it in a day or so.

Holding off on Legos until youngest ages out of choking hazard time, but after that, I will just give in to them. We've gotten such great use out of our Duplos and purchased Duplos for all birthdays and other holidays so all the toys can be stored together and don't overrun our small apartment. When we switch, we'll buy Legos for all occasions. My husband is just as excited about Legos as my oldest!

Legos are worth it to some extent. The crazy expensive sets are not, but in general you can get more than one lifetime of use from Legos. My kids are ages 12 and 8, Legos still rule in my house. We have most of DH's Legos from when he was a kid and my stepdad is restoring a Dodge Charger that was full of Legos when he recently bought it at auction. Looks like we will have more Legos at Christmas.

+1 used lego is the best lego! We also keep an eye out for random tubs of lego at the church / yard sales. Cheap and environmentally friendly.

It is also worth it because (for me at least, and it sounds like for you, too) it is one of the more fun things to do with my kid. I am much happier to sit down and build LEGOs with them than almost anything else, which is worth quite a bit to me.

The sets that come in the yellow boxes that are intended to have enough stuff to be open ended but also have instructions for lots of little builds you can make with them have been the most worthwhile for us so far.

I don’t buy my kids random gifts for no reason except on rare occasion but do spend a lot on Lego sets for bdays and Xmas.

I get used sets on eBay. My kids don’t mind.
