My AP English Lit students LOVE The Road... In fact, I don't think anybody has ever said they disliked it, which is quite remarkable considering the breadth of our curriculum.

No way would I call The Road a book for tweens, MAYBE older teens, but maybe not.

There are two dystopian novels called Feed fyi (I know a kid who was assigned to read Feed over the summer and read the wrong one).

One is about the US where a virus causes people to become vampires.

The other is about kids being able to get media jacked directly into their brains.

I read the first (which begins a trilogy I think) and it was very good.

For a younger teen (my DS is 13), he liked Neal Shusterman.

Some of these other suggestions are great books, but it depends on age and reading level.
