No Offense but I would consider those 4 schools better than George Washington. Maybe I'm just younger.

The scandal happened at the end of last cycle which means the effects is likely to hit this new cycle of applications.
The USnews uses the data from the past cycle which means it would take 2-3 years to see the actual effects of the scandal on the rankings.

Didn't they get caught manipulating some data. That tends to set a school back.

NP here. When Michigan was below UVA by 2-3 places people made it out to be a huge gap. Now that it’s flipped it’s suddenly insignificant?

Meh. I wouldn't call UVA's drop to 28th from 25th as big. There are nine schools (counting ties) ranked between 25th and 29th. The overall score for the 25th ranked is 75 and for the 29th it's 72. Pretty negligible difference.

William and Mary on the other hand is now at 40th, a new low for them. Then there's Maryland, at 64th. Not THAT's the embarrassing ranking.


It is a new low for UVA as well.


And they are just ahead of a number of schools including Georgia Tech and UNC.

Berkeley didn't have to sit in the penalty box for very long. They are back at number 22. When I see them ranked behind UCLA, something just seems amiss. I lived in California for quite a while and I think a strong majority considers Berkeley better.

I am sure William and Mary will try to shift to focus to its very good undergraduate teaching rank and talk about lack f resort
Races, blah, blah. But their overall rank decline is...embarrassing. They are typically around 31 to 34 (dropped last year). Anyone know what’s going on there? They seem stuck in a cycle of unpopularity.


A couple of years ago, both W&M and UVA had lower "resources" than any schools ranked in front of them. By that measure, they were overachieving. At that time, UVA was #1 in graduation rate among publics and W&M was #2. For alumni giving %, W&M was #1 and UVA was #2.

UT-Austin and UW-Madison seem really undervalued. William and Mary is just an odd fit. Never thought I’d see the day Wake Forest overtook UVA. No serious person thinks Wake Forest is a better school than UVA. George Mason is still up and coming very very slowly.


I would say both UVA and W&M are better than Wake. Wake is 56 in Forbes, behind both UVA and W&M. It is behind UVA in WSJ, but ahead of W&M. But of course USNWR matters the most.
