No. They also rely on work product and teacher recommendations. If they are referred a form comes home for parents to fill out with additional background information.

An already deemed gifted kid should have no problem with the nnat.

Yes they do all take it and some still don’t do well. It is just one assessment.

I think a certain nnat score just gets kids in the gt pool for consideration. Parents then have to submit a parent evaluation form, and a committee decides.

A kid could be opted out, but otherwise everyone takes it.

As I understand it, all kids get the test results. There’s a cutoff fir automatic screening. It’s lower than FCPS’s cut off. But still, even a great score won’t get you designated GT automatically. Just put in the pool.

NP: APS ES = easy to get gifted label if a parent asks and has a reasonable reason why BECAUSE it is not a resource drain at all since there are no resources to drain. APS ES also identifies a LOT of kids through the N-Ipad test in 2nd grade.

My limited experience in Arlington ES was with a gifted teacher who saw liking school and doing what you were told as a requirement for being classified as gifted. Needless to say my kid wasn’t meeting her standard. She eventually got the classification but not until she was gone. The only good thing ARLINGTON offers for the gifted is high school internship programs.
