For people who don’t have kids in public schools, it is a unfair tax for services not used.
In Arkington 20% of the households have kids in public schools but at least 40% of the County budget goes to public schools. I wouldn’t mind if the kids were educated, but based on those I have interviewed for placement at my alma mater educated, they are lacking.
To me that is socialism. It is good enough
I knew someone who shrieked about single mothers on welfare while she was sending four kids to public school while paying property taxes of around $6000 a year.

You are confused. There has been but one definition of socialism as referenced by Republicans. It's the Democrats, in close alignment with the progressive/leftist parties of the world, that has sought to obfuscate the meaning of socialism by attaching the word "democratic" to it. Democratic socialism is an invention of the left, not the right.

Gotta keep the definition of socialism murky enough that you can apply the tag to anything the Democrats might want to do as a matter of government policy while maintaining plausible deniability in case the Republicans would like to do something similar.

So there is no disagreement between PPs and the Democratic Socialists of America party that Democratic Socialism as pursued in the US by prominent Democratic politicians is indeed socialism, in direct contradiction to the bolded part above.
