But I still don't get all the newborn comparisons. I mean, you can put the dog in a crate and leave the house! You can't do that with a baby, ever.
To me it's more like a young toddler that can get in to everything. Like a toddler (but not a newborn), he's mobile, wants to put everything small in his mouth, has accidents, doesn't always sleep through the night, you can plop them in a pack n play but you can't leave unattended too long.

If you've already had adult dogs it won't be so bad.
I found a temporary pen on top of a piece of linoleum to be extremely helpful. That's where the crate was.

I felt it was a hundred times worse than a newborn. (I have had 4). My newborn wasn't able to run around and get into everything to try to eat it, wasn't able to bite and chew things, and peed and pooped in a diaper that contained it all until I could change it.

I could never handle another puppy. If I ever get another dog (doubtful), I would get an older dog.
