It has nothing to do with being cool parent for me.

When I was 15, my best friend was a boy. His family moved back to Lebanon. I knew that we’d never see each other again. And my parents wouldn’t let me go to his cousin’s house in DC for a huge goodbye party. We wrote letters to each other for the next 8 or 9 years, but it was not the same.

You are all crazy thinking a boy that you haven’t met I’d staying at my house. Grooming- you must be thick in the head to not know the definition. Everyone tries to be cool parent and sophomore versus senior boy is not the same as heading off to college. Maybe I’m uptight but I will look out for my child. Or maybe I watch too much Investigation ID to feel comfortable allowing a STRANGER stay in my home

When I was in high school my favorite place to have sex was near a lake with lots of hiking trails. I told my parents I was going for a jog afterschool - which we did AFTER we had sex. Sometimes my BF put up a tent so we could have privacy. Sometimes we just took off our clothes and did it in the water.

I had friends whose favorite place to hook up was the photography lab at school. It’s completely dark except for a red light and everyone is really careful about knocking and not opening doors so you don’t ruin other people’s work.

My parents routinely allowed my male BFF to spend the night when I was a teenager. It was because even though I was clueless at the time, it was pretty clear to them that he was not into women whatsoever. Their trust was not misplaced - the only things that happened at those sleepovers involved staying up way too late to watch bad movies. He came out right before we graduated high school.

Or the girls are into each other and the boy is a diversion. Does it really matter? You can’t prevent sex completely. You can prevent healthy friendships with overprotectiveness and fear of nearly adult children being sexual.

Or the mutual friend. I'd be concerned that I was being manipulated into facilitating his hookup with the friend in my house. I could decide to take that risk (or not) with my own DD but I wouldn't want to have to call the mom of the other girl after catching those two under my roof. . . I guess if you talk to both other parents about what your understanding is, it might be ok.

And what's wrong with that? I told my ds(now 20) that mom doesn't need to know everything. Yes, he was into telling me everything, mostly due to his sever anxiety, sometimes for shock value. Better in your house where you are still mostly safe, than in the park, no?
