We're not talking about absolute numbers.

Places like Chicago, Baltimore, and Detroit have some of the toughest gun laws, and have the highest crime rates. That's no coincidence.

FACT: I biked from Virginia to DC this morning. I was not stopped at a checkpoint on the 14th Street Bridge sidepath. No one asked me if I was taking a gun from Virginia into DC. No one asked to look inside my pannier (bike bag). I could have been doing a challenge to see how many guns I could have carried on my bike, no one would have known.

OTOH - It would have had to have been handguns. I don't think I could carry a rifle in my pannier.

Squirrel!! What does biking have to do with this?

Anyhow, where the guns come from is irrelevant. The guns are already here in the US. They aren’t going to be confiscated anymore than people driving 5 to 10 mph over the speed limit are going to get a ticket. That is the reality despite all the anti gun protesting which is simply a waste of time. What all of the responders on this forum have failed to suggest are realistic solutions to the homicide problem, and the related mass shooting problem in this country, and particularly in DC and MD. WHY are so many homicides committed? Is it really the availability of a gun, or something more cultural? Is it simply one of the prices of freedom, diversity, and open competition? Is it the desensitization of people to violence? Is it just population density and the fact that putting lots of people close together will result in more violence? If so, does the good outweigh the bad? Anyhow, I will go read “studies” on the matter but my guess is that I will find conflicting studies and evidence by the researches paid to draw a predetermined conclusion. Just wanted to get some in depth thought form the average Joe and Jane. Instead I got much of the same, emotional and hackneyed platitudes about fantasy land gun control laws. Keep practicing the old adage of the definition of insanity ... and blindly hope for a different outcome.

It’s the cycle of poverty. People commit crimes and terrorize the neighborhood. Neighbors are scared and won’t ran out the terrorists. People get killed and people are scared for their lives and won’t talk. Criminals have guns. They won’t turn them in just because they are illegal.

Strict gun laws reduce shootings.

Which explains why no one has been shot in Chicago since 1924.

The US has strict gun laws now? News to me. I thought there was a nice steady flow of weapons from IN to IL.

Yes, please ignore facts and research. Make your points based on bigotry, hate, and fearmongering.

Pssssst!! You forgot to call me a racist.

Well that goes without saying. Also, you’re an idiot.

Riiiiiiiight. There we go.

Let me ask you something: are you aware that such refutations as yours consisting solely of calling names and labeling people racists are basically seen as a white surrender flag by everyone? An acknowledgement that you’ve got nothing else to respond with, so you just throw down some insults and leave, thinking “yeah, I really showed that b!tch!

Except you didn’t show her, or anyone else, anything... except that you got nothing else.

I wonder if maybe you didn’t realize this back when you were a child, like most kids do when they reach adolescence, and your doing this as an adult now is an indication of a developmental disability. In that case, I’m really sympathetic for you. And I want to try and make you aware of it, so you can work towards not doing it.

PP has already demonstrated he doesn’t want to discuss facts or research; he just wants to push hate and racism. So that’s where we are now. Try to keep up.

Next up in your research, look into urban vs rural density, poverty vs affluence and apples vs oranges.

All you're saying here is that violent people seek out guns. VA has access to all of these guns and yet the murder rate isnt as high. Seems like people in DC and MD are more violent and want to make more of an effort to get to guns and shoot people.
