There is an age where skin or eye color questions are genuinely asking for a color. And then there's the point where the kid wants/needs more. It's like asking where babies come from, the 2yo answer is different than the 9 yo answer. Knowing more about the context of the question is helpful for being able to answer. It's possible that the PPs answer is correct for OP, but much depends on why the kid is asking. We are a mixed race family with very pale white kid. At one point his question meant what crayon should I use, and at another point he wanted to know why mommy was so much darker than him and what did it mean when the man at the store thought I was his nanny.
