Grand Junction is actually beautiful. I have friends who've moved to Colorado and they absolutely love it, but they are very outdoorsy people.

They aren't moving to Denver. They're moving to Grand Junction. A 'city' of 50,000 people.
Ever driven all the way down to Charlottesville for a staycation? Now imagine twice the distance and that's Grand Junction. Denver is a 4-hour drive away. So is Salt Lake City. Nice views though!

USGS has big presence in South Dakota wonder if that might be in works too.
No. 93% of the agency is already located at various field offices outside DC. This is no different than the other move. They’re hoping the employees (it’s only like 27 people) will quit. And they just slashed 74 positions. The people being targeted are probably standing in the way of something this administration wants to do. Get rid of those people, and they can build those condos, gas pipelines, nuclear plants, etc., that were blocked.

They also don’t understand that those people have lots of other opportunities right here and that’s why they aren’t “screwed” and don’t need to leave, even if it makes them sad to give up jobs they love and feel passionate about. Read the thread - they're only screwed if they leave.
Also I'd be curious to see who the scientists will side-line to when September comes around. Fun times in D.C. all around.

They also don’t understand that those people have lots of other opportunities right here and that’s why they aren’t “screwed” and don’t need to leave, even if it makes them sad to give up jobs they love and feel passionate about.
