The problem conservatives do not address is that CBP has essentially shut down the legal border entry points to asylum seekers. They are purposely slow rolling the processing of claims. They essentially tell the person presenting themselves legally “No you can’t apply. Go away.”
So when you say “Apply for asylum legally,” you are being disingenuous. The Trump Administration has effectively shut down the legal avenue. That’s why you are seeing illegal border crossings for asylum seekers spiking like crazy.
It’s a manufactured crisis. Just resume business-as-usual at legal points of entry (take their claim, get them in front of judge/case workers, make an administrative decision) and you’ll see the illegal crossings go down.
Further, allow asylum seekers to apply at embassies. This currently isnt allowed under US law.
and you KNOW this HOW?
I am a moderate Democrat and you are going to ruin the country with this BS

So why are the raids being publicized days in advance?
“It’s unprecedented. But there is a political purpose behind it,” Thomas Kilbride, a retired Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agent and ICE policy adviser, told Fox News. He said the president has tried to get Democrats to come to the table because asylum laws need to change, and this is a way to bargain.
Other experts have underscored that Trump’s announcements are something of a gesture – and not something that the administration was under any legal obligation to do.
“The main point here is that the Trump administration is trying to circumvent some of the blowback from the other side of the aisle. It sends the message that these people have been notified to self-deport and if they fail to do that, this might happen,” said Steve Bucci, homeland security expert at the Heritage Foundation. “It is saying that we aren’t monsters, what we are doing is in accordance with the law and in a reasonable fashion.
"Past administrations didn’t announce raids because they didn’t have to, they just did them.”

Frankly, I hope they surprise everyone and start the raids today.

Thank you Democratic Party for shooting yourself in both feet. Trump 2020 looks like a sure thing.

Anonymous wrote:I am a Democrat supporting Trump because I want to stop illegal immigration.
Anonymous wrote:Folks, you do know that most of these immigrants are no refugees by any stretch of the imagination, correct?
If they were, they could have chosen to stay in countries closer than their own.
They are coming here, by economic choice, to make a living. Nothing bad about that, but please don't buy the partisan politicsl BS.
Signed,
Immigrant

More importantly it places our ICE personnel in danger because they have lost the element of surprise. Why did the administration publicly announce the timing?
Red meat for the base.
This. Trump isn't serious about illegal immigration. He's just using the issue, and will continue to use it, to consolidate power. If he actually solves it, he won't have anything to run on.

This could be changed in a hot minute by Congress. But, Pelosi will not let the minority bring up any bills.
Because it doesn’t address legit cases where someone may be running for their life from a gang or corrupt government.
Plus, passing such a law will just give Trump a convenient excuse to keep the ports of entry closed to asylum seekers. I would not pass it either, since Trump does not act in good faith or follow thru on his deals.
