Not a good idea. It should be new, safe and small like a Tesla 3
No, no, no, stupid and wrong.
Large and slow-moving IS safe.
Small is NOT safe.
They ARE going to get in accidents. That is why you do NOT want small.
That is also why you do NOT want new.
Anyone who buys a new car for a teen is beyond stupid. Might as well set $40,000 on fire.

Good choice.
+1 for tesla model 3. I bought the 2019 model for my 18 years old DD. For my 17 years old DS, we get him a 2019 Lexus NX200t SUV model

Seriously?
My DH and I have a combined annual income in the millions. Not kidding. And we got our teen driver a used Subaru. DH did. Ton of research about safest cars for teen drivers, and that was the winner. I wouldn’t but my kids new luxury cars.

Thank goodness we kept the old car as mines constantly in for repairs. This was someone who took a nap at the side of the road. This has nothing to do with the topic. Like the poster whose daughter got hit by the uber driver, you want safe, reliable and sturdy. I want my kid, like hers, to walk away. Cars can be replaced. People cannot.

Seriously, what’s your question? Most people do not buy their teen drivers a new car. My kids drive an old Honda Civic, just because that what we happened to have. Are you buying new or used?
This will probably be us in less Dad and Mom have newer cars and then we'll pick a car we all agree on and we can afford.
Unless of course you care about your child and you want to make sure they have a reliable car in exellent condition because the more reliable car, the safer the car. Ever wonder what will happen to your unexperienced in road situations and having to make hard quick smart decision .. young kid will get stuck in the middle of nowhere..at night.. on the side of the road or middle lane on the busy highway because the hooptie you gave them was just about to start breaking down. People die on the side of the road you know. Did you forget the story of Michael Jordan's Dad?
He was just taking a short nap on the side of the road but the same scenario can happen if a car breaks.
On July 23, 1993, while returning home from a funeral, Jordan Sr. pulled over on US Highway 74 just south of Lumberton, North Carolina, to take a nap. Daniel Andre Green[5] and Larry Martin Demery spotted the car Michael had recently purchased for him (a red Lexus SC400 with the North Carolina license plate that read "UNC0023").[6] Green and Demery shot Jordan to death while he slept in his car, then stole the vehicle.
