Howard is much much whiter if that's what you mean.
Hmmm...not what I meant, considering I am BROWN. But more students and parents who prioritize education and less of a corrupt and inefficient administration.

FCPS does talk about the achievement gap constantly in public like MCPS does, because the issue does not affect every school. But all the problems of MCPS are there in FCPS. I think of FCPS and Frederick Co. in general as about 10 years behind MCPS in terms of problems an issues. Many families are coming from Baltimore or Germantowne to Frederick for cheaper rents. People looking for the cheapest places to live go to Washington Co. You will encounter a lot of places with old school rednecks and racists. Frederick is the largest county in MD, so there are definitely pockets of old fashioned white supremacy.
That's an understatement of the day!

Where do you live?

Anonymous wrote:I don’t hate MoCo or MCPS and acknowledge that HCPS are rising fast. However, my friends who moved to Frederick Co are unhappy. They moved in the last 5 years for big houses and thought that their presence as highly educated professionals and involved parents would lead the schools to rise to the occasion. It hasn’t. One friend is particularly frustrated because our kids were neck and neck in their skills and motivation when they lived in MoCo, but his DD has fallen much further behind. It’s also a major commitment to get her to the ECs in DC and NoVA that we used to do together. They tried joining an activity in York, PA, but our kids did those particular projects in ES, not MS.

Given the lack of diversity in FCPS schools, I'm not at a place where I'm comfortable sending my kids there.
well, too bad you appear to live in the past, as you missed one of the BEST gay pride events in the city this past weekend
Nothing stays the same, but if you're going to base your experiences on your 23 yo self, then you don't want to hear this argument.
DP: Gay Pride does not equal acceptance of racial and ethnic minorities. There’s actually a lot of anti-Asian attitudes among white gay males.

I disagree.
While we are in one of the two mentioned above, a smaller system like FCPS provides teachers with more autonomy and as a result, students are much more resourceful and resilient.
I've seen growth in my own kids, as we left Mo Co over a year ago. Working PT over the summer and during the school year is encouraged, and according to my daughter, academics are a priority. She's find an academic cohort in other words, which wasn't the case in MCPS.
Maybe FCPS isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it's been a good move for us and for others who have moved into our area.
Once a school system becomes too large, it becomes inefficient and can't meet competing demands of its student population.
