This exactly. You have to be self-disciplined to immediately follow through with every request. Make it non-optional.

I'm sorry for all that happened to you. ADHD and lack of impulse control didn't make your brother do those things, though, being a bad person did.

No, regret the days I let him skip the meds!

ZERO regrets (unless you count not medicating earlier). Life is so much better for all with DC on meds, most of all better for DC. Over 6 years DC has been on 2 different meds. We are thrilled our doctor is conservative, and that DC starts on a very low dose and increases until we hit the sweet spot - it works and DC doesn't feel bad/not themself.

PP is right, EVERY medicine has side effects. Even Advil/Motrin can lead to ulcers. You have to weigh the risks. For a child/adult without ADHD - I would not medicate. For our DC, it is absolutely necessary for a healthy and productive life.

I regret that ds has adhd. I thank my lucky stars every day that there is a medication that works for him.

This. My DD would not have gotten into a 4 year college. Her self-esteem was tanking. As far as I’m concerned doing the meds was like chemo. Worth the risk because it saved her life prospects if not her actual life.

It was important to first and then initially continue therapy, but adhd meds is the best thing we've done for our now thriving, happy children.
