I never had them and never regretted it either. Only one kid ever asked for a goody bag and I just said I gave a fun party and the kid seemed satisfied.

Not expensive if you don't have too many kids. Still less expensive than plastic junk. And the best part is it's summer, lots of kid movies coming and the whole party crew can plan a movie outing!

GTFO with a $10 movie pass.

+1 I mean, I usually just hand out $100 bills.. the kids complain, no candy, but the Moms and Dads are SUPER Happy.

My kids have never asked where a goody bag was if a party didn't have one. They enjoyed the party, played with their friends, ate the food and cake, and came home. I'd say goody bags are more common than not (I don't particularly like them - I give one party-themed item that isn't crap, personally), but they've never questioned not getting one. Ever.

They have, unless they're dim. They just haven't questioned not getting one to you.

Maybe have a bowl filled with small toys or candy or wrapped cookies for kids to grab on the way out? Goodie bags are such a waste of paper, plastics and a lot of other things!

I think you should give something (Geez not movie tickets though. Goodie bags are to get kids to leave the party not as a real gift). I really think you can give almost anything and kids are happy.

Kids will ask you about them on their way out.

I did a lego party where they got to keep a lego car they made and they got a necklace and some other things to keep during the party so I didn’t think they needed an additional favor and kids still asked me on the way out.

So decide how you feel about that and what your response will be!

My kids would definitely notice. They love getting them no matter what is in them (can be anything at all).

We went to a party recently where they gave out sidewalk chalk and a lollipop. Cute and easy!

Nope. Kids will for a second, but then they will forget. Save the money.

My 4YO is very aware if there is no goody bag. We'll get to the car where he'll notice and then think he's the only kid who didn't get one (doesn't believe me when I tell him no one got one!). Call him spoiled, but he's so much happier when he "gets" something to take home from a birthday party.

Do you gently correct him on his spoiled attitude? If my kids said something about not getting a goodie bag, I would remind them that all parties are different, that the important thing is celebrating the birthday boy/girl, and that the fun/activity/food was a gift, too. If you don’t say something, your kid WILL end up being spoiled/judgmental.

It comes up among DCs friends after half the parties that followed DC's.

Unless somehow you are in a birthday circuit where half don't do goodie bags....

btdt

This. This is why I did them. Ugh.

Oh - but I will say I made it Part of the party. Like a craft or piñata and just provided a bag to put the candy in.
