I took the walking into the water along with the burning of the bed/house to be failed suicide attempts. Both times she is thwarted by the appearance of another character.

The walking into the water is similar to/reminiscent how Virginia Woolf committed suicide.

I think so too, though the second time she clearly changed her mind. She seemed to walk by her husband contemptuously which I took to me she will be joining the resistance as she is able.

I think the reviewer was short sighted. I am loving it so far. A little slow, and yes, there are some repetitive themes because you know- men still treat the women like crap. But still very powerful to see how the women deal with it.

But I would never save myself and leave a daughter there. Ever. I would die getting her out rather than leaving her to be raped, mutilated, and enslaved— if things turn out well. Wouldn’t any mother?

hmmm...if that happens, I will think that this show is designed to raise my blood pressure. Seriously though, this show scares me a lot when I think about our present society and efforts to control women's reproduction and the misogyny behind it (yes, I know this is entertainment, not political).
