Sorry to hear that. I wonder if I know the kid because there is an Asian boy in my DD's class who fits this description and I know he got rejected.
My kid got 270 on MAP-M and 230 on MAP-R in the Spring of 5th Grade.
He was rejected, and we're in a nonW cluster. I didn't think he'd get into Eastern, but he really was hoping to get into TPMS because he loves math.

We know a couple of girls who had scores across the board the same or lower than the boys we know, and the girls got in. I am not saying the girls didn't deserve to go as their scores were excellent. But to say the girls, at least in our specific case, outscore the boys is dead wrong.
I'm sure there were many girls who outscored boys. They just don't share their scores. Most people don't. My girls way outscored most accepted students on the Raven of the old test. We did not share their scores. We only know because we had median scores of accepted students, and their scores were very far above.
Boys in the magnet can be real jerks and academic bullies. These programs need more girls. And, yes, girls can be jerks too. But, the aggression seems to come from boys. Girls need to have numbers.

I think you're right - gender IS known to the reviewers, to make sure Takoma isn't all male and Eastern all female.
It’s pretty sexist to think one school would end up with only one sex without outside interference. How can that be possible?
No assumptions being made. MCPS said they needed to balance gender.
You realize that's illegal?
Really? When DC was in the magnet at TPMS, it was acknowledged that they tried to get more girls. We were told the admission process was completely "blind" w.r.t. everything else - race/home school/etc. I do not know if this has changed with the new admissions process.
And you really believe that?
Yes, it’s also illegal to use race for this. I’m aware some angry parents whose kids were rejected have dreamed up all sorts of kooky scenarios. However, if you have any real evidence as opposed to unprovable hunches please share it.

Our CES (one of the most competitive CESs) this year had 5 kids accepted by TP/Eastern, all are girls. Given that the total number of boys is slightly more than that of girls, shall I consider this phenomenon sexist?
It is possible higher scoring girls and boys were left in their home Middle schools from your CES because of ...(strange music plays) ..."cohort."
Their home school has such a strong cohort it's one of those amazing schools that people pay hundreds of thousands more to live in boundary so surely better than some silly magnet anyway.
