From the Slate piece linked above:

"A 2010 study found that the sexier the female anchor, the less men retain of what she says. They literally see instead of hear her."

You may not notice or think about this. I can assure you that men do.

you are still conflating bare arms with sexiness

let's just put the women in burqas

Men look good and professional in suits. It gives their frame sharpness and structure. Sleeveless anything doesn't belong in a professional environment. No reason why women can't wear a lightweight cardigan, blazer, blouse..there are options. Men are wearing two full layers- so I don't buy you are "too hot" to wear anything but something sleeveless. Bare arms and armpits belong at the beach, gym, your Sunday backyard cookout.

This is how a professional woman should dress:

To be on TV as a news reporter? You can't wear those outfits on TV. Jaysus.

Sleeveless in winter looks stupid. I have a bigger problem with TOO tight ( lots of spandex) and weather ladies looking like they just came from the club. I live in a smaller market area and some of these ladies are too big for this look.

They are members of the entertainment industry as well as the news industry. Their attire is in no way inappropriate.

It is odd that the men are dressed in business suits, but the women are wearing party dresses. It doesn’t make sense in a professional work environment.

+1 oddly distracting. I keep find my self wondering if they are cold or if the lights are hot or they spilled coffee on the jacket and had to ditch it? Wait, what was the story about again?

Actually I'm 50 and am having so many hot flashes I've started to wear sleeveless dresses. Do usually wear or carry something to put over them if I have to, because when I started working it wasn't considered professional and I have batwing arms now.

I wish the ladies dressed more like rl in dc - not the sleeveless star trek dresses.

Sleeves are much harder to fit, even on a trim figure. Given they have to look good on camera from all angles, and move their arms, sleeveless is practical. I worked in corporate HR for a group of TV stations many years ago. Even in a market like DC, starting salaries are very low.

I recently bumped into the local NBC weather girl at tj Maxx stocking up on dresses. I forget her name. She’s the younger one.
