DP. Just realized we'd better all clarify - there is an old miniseries from U.S. television called "North and South" (1985) that's about the American Civil War. Then there's a British miniseries (2004) with the same title that is about the cultural clash between characters from the English "north and south" in the 19th century. I was confused for a second, picturing Richard Armitage and Patrick Swayze in the same series, until I realized posters meant these two different ones. And yeah, the British one is good costume drama. I have only seen a little of the American one but couldn't get past some of the, um, acting....

Yes, I hoped I wasn't the only one to think of Lace! I watched it when it first appeared in the 80's - I was a teenager and loved it! First time I heard the B word on tv lol!! It was scandalous at the time

Yeah, I think this is my favorite too followed closely by the 2006 version of Jane Eyre with Ruth Wilson.
When I think of mini-series, I also think of the 1985 Civil War series North and South (with Patrick Swayze). Although I loved it at the time, I'm not sure that has aged well.
A recent one I liked was A Very English Scandal (Hugh Grant).
This exactly, if you are ever wanting some cheese and pure popcorn ridiculousness. I was a teen when this came on in the 80s and missed the last episode due to a family party that I couldn't miss. This was back when Betamax and VHS were still having a duel for supremacy and cost something crazy like $500, so no option for recording. I was devastated! Watched the conclusion some years later and hahaha at all the terrible attempts at southern accents and extreme overacting. Not Cmdr. William Riker's finest performance lol. Also really glossed over the horrors of slavery and devastation on both sides, so agree that it hasn't aged well.
