He's 6' and 250lb. He has a huge beer belly. Other than that, his annual physical exams indicate no harm. He doesn't drive home from the events but he's a fully functioning parent and adult after the beverages. There are times when he is able to function better than I can and I don't drink.
So, medically, there is nothing wrong with my DH.
The gut is going to hasten his death.
OP, 4 beers a night is a lot. IPAs are more like 5-7% alcohol than 10%, but it's still a lot.
Not to mention the state of his liver.
Double IPAs have higher alcohol content by volume than regular IPAs. I love beer, but it seems a bit excessive when he's drinking 144oz of beer like Imperial Stouts that have almost the same alcohol content as white wine. Per week! That's like 5 bottles of white. Yikes.
Time to check your facts before spouting off. Imperial stouts vary widely in alcohol conent. Some are quite similar to that of a miller lite.

One unit of beer = 12 ounces of 5% alcohol.
If your DH is drinking 10% alcohol beers, that means he is drinking about 24 units a week. 24/7 = 3.4 units/day. So yes, that is too much. He is a heavy drinker.
Alcohol is a level one carcinogen. Even modest amounts are associated with an increased risk of multiple different forms of cancer. He may eventually have other health problems too, but cancer is the big one.
OP here. Read the entire thread. He is having 12 a week. 4 Friday night, 4 Saturday and 4 Sunday. I think it will lead to problems later on, but I need to just accept it. Hopefully he changes if he starts to see affects.

Anonymous wrote:4 on Friday night, 4 on Saturday night, and a couple in the afternoons on Saturday and Sunday doesn't strike me as egregious.
One potential red flag I see, though, is him not drinking at all during the week. That could be a sign that he doesn't view himself as having a good relationship with alcohol. If he had one or two on a random weekday night, it would suggest that he isn't drinking to get intoxicated, but just because he happens to want a beer.
