My husband will take our kids to have brunch with his mother while I sleep in and then watch mindless television. I am meeting my mom and my sister for lunch. My husband usually arranges cards and flowers for me - I have asked for no gifts. We will go to church in the evening and my husband is responsible for dinner and he knows he needs to make reservations somewhere or bring home takeout. Either one is fine.

Most likely I'll be disappointed because my husband doesn't celebrate mother's day. Says it's not a holiday in his country. My mother died when I was a child. I didn't know it was coming up until this post. Yeah what a shitty husband I have.

Celebrating my youngest's first birthday. Small party with my parents. My mom and I will have gifts for each other and my oldest will magnanimously allow us to share his brother's cake.

I plan to sack out on the couch and watch some movies. Dh can entertain the kids. I want to be alone!!

MIL just moved nearby so we're either having brunch at our place, or hers depending on how unpacked she feels. Quiche, fruit salad, apple cake, and bacon. I'll probably round up some flowers for her.

Last year we hit up a botanical garden for a walk, my request.

I claim a whole weekend. One day leverage to make DH attend a family outing like going to a farm (which he hates and I love). One day I take to myself to relax.

Nothing big. Maybe just relax at home and do a family movie. Maybe I’ll put in a request for DH to cook dinner. I’m going to tell him not to get me a gift bc I want to plan a trip which I’ll consider a gift.

Ah it's NEXT weekend, phew! Had me worried. I need to pick up cards.

We'll go out to brunch like usual.

Why can’t the 60+ year old moms get their birthday instead? I’d argue I need a day for my kids to celebrate me and a day for everyone to celebrate me (my birthday). Being a mom to babies isn’t easy.

My DH is traveling to see a friend before kid #2 arrives so it’ll be me and our four year old son. I think we’ll treat ourselves to a nice brunch!

Ditto, except we won’t have many people to host, my parents and maybe a cousin. DD has requested we do homemade pizza after, and that’s DH’s specialty so I’ll let him manage all that mess.

My mom is out of state, so I send her a card. We go to church, then DH and kids do something sweet just for me (it’s always a surprise), then we’re off to a vineyard with his extended family. We’ve done the vineyard thing for several years and it’s so nice - everyone just brings picnic food, no work, no mess, we just hang out, it’s lovely.

OP here. I can't take my kids to a movie. I have an infant and a toddler. I need DH to help. My toddler doesn't understand what mothers day is about yet. I'd be pissed if DH left me alone to celebrate his mom.

HEY!! You are not the OP. I am the OP, and my DH's mom passed away years ago.

Then tell him you'd like your special day to be Saturday. He can take her out Sunday. But if it is really about a date on a calendar, then either draw your line in the sand with him, or stop complaining about this dynamic that you are choosing to be a part of.
