You did the right thing and followed the right steps so far. Escalate to the superintendent. If that doesn't solve it, hire a lawyer. Not kidding. Would you accept your child being moved to another class? I'm a teacher and this is serious stuff. I'm sorry it is happening to your daughter.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this. recognize that, it is possible that the administration doesn't really understand and/or thinks you/your child are going to hell too (or the kids parents...and they could be otherwise 'normal,' educated, lovely people). I mean, I seriously had someone ask me if i had horns as a jewish person and meant it. Like they were not being mean but had been taught in church that Jews had horns.

however, the administration should (and i assume will) understand the bullying behavior and that i needs to stop.

OP here. Thank you everyone. I appreciate it. Where we live, there are only 4 weeks of school left, so this is at least going to come to and end soon.

My husband and I talked, and he disagreed with me that we should go to the superintendent yet. I disagree on that, but also feel pretty strongly that we should work in tandem. So for the moment, we agreed that I would wait until one or two weeks before school ends and then contact the superintendent for a meeting over the summer to debrief. In the meantime, I'm keeping notes of any and all issues. Interestingly, one of the girls has been out a lot lately, and voila, if one is gone, the issues stop. The minute they're together, right back at it. I get I can't control that but quite frankly it pisses me off.

I see no point at this point in reaching out to the principal. My last correspondence to him was, "we put our daughter's protection in your hands and your school failed, and continues to fail." So I don't see the point, although I do appreciate 8:56's perspective. Their response at this point is that unless something "bad" happens, there's nothing more they will do, but the bullies continue to taunt and attempt to intimidate, but they've learned they can do this through a third party without consequences so that's what they continue to do. So I'm working with my daughter on ignoring and shrugging,her shoulders and walking away. Four more weeks of that.

IF ANYTHING overt happens, more than what they're doing now, I'll implement 8:56's strategies. But right now, we're trying to diffuse it from our end by not giving it much more energy. I don't know if the right way to go, but without real support from the school I thought it was safest for my daughter. We are 100% on record with the school that we're dissatisfied, for whatever that's worth. It's literally an every-day evaluation, day by day.

Do you think the school administration response (lack of response) to date is because they don't understand the problem, they don't have the skills or resources to address it, or they have the skills and resources but they refuse to deploy them? The response you get from the school admin and superintendent will depend on this.
