Half of the students in DC attend charter school. I for one believe that the public schools could do a better job attracting students. And I have four kids in DC public schools. Why have an admissions director who is not marketing and promoting the school in every which way possible. It doesn't help if according to the OP they are unreachable. They certainly have enough time to talk with someone who seems to be interested in considering moving to the District and paying DC taxes to attend a public school (yes much better than gaming the system from PG county). We should encourage the best and brightest teachers and students. It raises the level of everyone. I would welcome the family. Sure they might apply and not get in. But we should encourage them to apply and try to attract more like them. I hope that they weren't deterred.

But it doesn’t ring true. You can’t just move to DC and attend either SWW or Ellington and it would be dumb to buy a home and hope you get in.
You must apply - NEXT fall. There are open houses and such in the fall.
You’d be better off buying or renting in PG County and then scamming your way in like a lot of Ellington families! Even the admissions folks are in on the scam, as they have friends in PG, who work for the DC government but live in Maryland.

They wanted to meet with the admissions counselor and take a quick tour of the school. They tried for a month to set something up and either they didn't get return calls, got the wrong information, were told to make the request over email--which they did and then didn't get a response. So they went over to the school today--only to be turned away. After spending $178 million of our DC tax money on their renovation, you would think that they would be just a little more responsive. They also went over to Walls just to see that school as well. Very nice and professional, and they received a wonderful and very brief quick tour of the school by Walls' students.
So,y our friends have not paid DC any tax money. Am I following?
