OP, i'm not trying to be mean, honestly. But do you have such anxiety about other areas of your life? While

So put in ear buds and wait on hold. This is what being an adult is. If you can't today because you have meetings, then don't do it now. If you have a casual meeting, just say "I might have to jump out to take a call I have on hold...excuse my ear phone!" You can't get relief if you don't help yourself...the magic IRS fairy isn't going to just knock on your door. A lost mail request isn't going to help you.

I don't know that you're being difficult, but you're behaving kind of tantrummy and blowing things way out of proportion, which is just inching up your anxiety. It's just a letter from the IRS - have you even tried googling "Why does the IRAS send certified mail?" Or calling them? They have a phone number you can call specifically about letters: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/understanding-your-irs-notice-or-letter and the reasons they send letters are not particularly scary, OP.

They most likely made a change to your return and are notifying you. This happens all the time. You are not special. You are not a criminal. People get audited sometimes randomly - if this is you, it's no biggie if you are operating legally. You need to chill out and use fewer capital letters in your screamy posts. You seem unpleasant and aggressive and frenetic.

That would stress me out, too, Op. Call the IRS, even if you need to take a little time off to do it - call them.

This used to happen to me often. My address was too long for the IRS. We used to think it was hilarious that the people couldn't get my address right. I lived on "George Washington Court" and they'd cut it off so that it was "George Wash Ct". SO many letters got returned as undeliverable to the IRS, including my audit. I had to spend over 3 hours on the phone to contact the IRS because they couldn't get my address to print correctly. And LOL at the IRS not getting the country's founder's name correct on mail.

OP- I hope it turns out okay. My guess is that it will be fine.

OP Here. The Post Office lost it. Says "Out for Delivery on the 19th" with no idea where it's gone. Have gone to the PO every day since the 19th and have stood in line, only to tell me they don't have it. So nearly a whole f-ing week with a ton of miserable shit on my plate and this hanging over my head.

We got one of these last year from 2016. That year, we moved and sold a bunch of stuff on ebay (enough to be over the 20,000 paypal reporting limit). Paypal sent us a 1099 digitally which we entered but they amended it after we filed and we didn't get the amendment notification (or it went to spam), so we ended up owing a couple hundred dollars.
