They either get them done at a spa type place or a private tech comes to their homes. My MIL sent me several stern texts when she was watching my kids during an anniversary trip and my DD asked her to take her and her friend to get their nails down at the local nail place. I would have loved to have seen her face when the request was made! DD and her friend got spoiled as my MIL took them to the Ritz in Tyson's to get their nails done.

lol what? your mil never wears sandals or goes barefoot in public?

Nope! She'll wear an open back heel or shoe in the spring and summer. Other than that, sandals are reserved for when on vacation at the beach house. She also never goes barefoot in their house. She's always in flats or a loafer of some sort.

I like to go barefoot just to mess with her a bit. My rebellion, if you will, because it makes her so uncomfortable.

She might have foot problems (like fallen arches or plantars fasciitis) that she is too well bred to mention.

Are you going bare foot in her home and she has a lot of oriental rugs, by any chance? Our rug cleaner has told us not to go barefoot on orientals because sweat and skin oils from the feet can be bad for the fibers.

I live in a beach town. Everyone shows their toes here.

How gauche!

Even Princess Di wore bathing suits and sandals. Surf, sun and sand baybee.

Op, google photos of Jacqueline Onassis. Your welcome.

She wore gloves. Plus nail salons weren't really such a thing back then anyway. Cant you come up with an example from the last 40 years?

Not one single style icon in modern times can touch her. Not one.

What I said was nail salons weren't particularly common in the 60s. Tippi Hedren was looking for a way to help Vietnamese refugees learn a skill 40 years ago, and that is what she came up with. I'm not thinking Tippi is the epitome of class; she was an actress in Hollywood. The two are not necessarily synonymous.

Things that are considered UMC change with the times. To point to someone who died decades ago as an argument either for or against is useless. Times change, and grooming habits change. Are we all supposed to wear beehives because Jackie did? Does that signify being upper class? Jackie Kennedy wore make-up, and that would have been a big no-no 50 years earlier. So even she recognized that style doesn't have to be stagnant.

Neat and trimmed is sufficient. But when I do polish my nails I put a light color on my fingernails and a more fun color on my toe nails. I find that my fingernails chip way faster than my toe nails do and the light colored polish does not show chips.
