I'm 44 and people still ask me when I'm going to give our one child (age 7) a sibling. The people who say these things cannot stop themselves from blurting it out.

We have boy-boy-girl. Everyone for the first six months or so, starting with the OB in the delivery room when she pulled DD out, said “you got your girl”. Even random strangers. People are obsessed with everyone having one of each.

I agree it's annoying, I think I find it particularly so because I'm from a cultural that stereotypically and historically values boys more, so the "are you disappointed you had another girl" question carries extra meaning. Other people do see it as a failure/shortcoming. (Which makes it even ruder that they say it!) I will say my husband has said numerous people have said this to him--he is caucasian--and he finds it really shocking. But we just brush it off. I always wish I would reply "why didn't you guys have more kids?" or "did you wish you had had a girl instead?" to the asker, but it's just rude, so I never think of it at the time.

OP never said it was a big deal. She briefly posted, then said "vent over."

It was obviously a big enough deal to post about, and a big enough deal to vent over. What a weird comment.

I had my second boy last month. My FIRST week post partum people asked if I was done. I mean let my perineum heal first folks. If I have a 3rd I'd like a girl but in reality once I'm pregnant I'm so relieved when I have a good anatomy scan that the sex doesn't really matter. A

I was MOST annoyed by this when I was pregnant with my second boy. Apparently I couldn't be excited about my baby being born; I was supposed to be looking ahead to another pregnancy which could theoretically be a girl....... ?!?!?!?

I had 2 girls close in age and people used ask me if I was going to "try for a boy". We had ort 3rd about 5 years after youngest DD and people exclaimed, "OH, you got your BOY!" as if that was the goal. So dumb.

I think a lot of the signaling subconsciously comes from you. Just act thrilled that you are having another girl and no one will ask this! I had two girls (and wanted two girls) and I don't think anyone ever asked me if I was going to try for a boy, and if they did, it didn't bother me. In fact, if I had a third, I'd sincerely hope SHE was a girl too.

I disagree with this. I have two, a boy and a girl, and nobody really asks if I'll have a third. The response is always "a boy and a girl, perfect!"

I have three girls. I never get asked that question.
