Families certainly can choose to apply to both. TJ is open to applications from anywhere in the world, and people will often move from other states to be closer if their child is admitted.

Really? All this time I thought it was George Jefferson and specialized in dry cleaning.
I'm not there now but when I was a student, we called it Jefferson.

Don't dismiss these students as somehow not amazing. Many of them probably earned the Banneker Key scholarship and chose free school over other "elite" schools. I've known of several magnet kids from Blair, Poolesville, and RM who turned down an Ivy for free UMD.
I am the parent of a Junior and we debate often over a Carnegie Mellon level school for over 70K vs UMD with a likely merit aid. We could cover CM though not easily and with no help for grad school. Would we? should we? We might not..even if he was lucky enough to be accepted.

Blair is like MIT, TJ is like Maryland University.
I am sometimes convinced that the trolls on this site are foreigners just stirring the shit.
Truth is both Blair and TJ pale to any basic honors dorm at any state school. There are a few elite kids that do gravitate to those programs but most are just really good students and not necessarily brilliant.

About 1/2 of Blair SMAC kids end up at the UMDCP Honors program every year...
You’re making my point, the avg college honors program consists of the best and brightest of the lower level’s best and brightest. Plenty of Blair magnet kids also end up at Montgomery college
And most of the college honors kids have never heard of blair let alone attended it
I think you are a troll. Not a single MC. Here is the list from last year:

This list is attending not admitted.
