OP - who is giving your kid loveys for christmas and birthdays? I think *that* is the weird part, not the fact that children use them. They are typically introduced when a baby is 4-6 months and if you buy more, it's a duplicate so you can rotate the extra in when the baby barfs on one (because you know it's going to happen!).

7.5 yo sleeps with a random baby-sized blanket (2’ x 2’) that my husband’s staffer gave her. My 5 yo sleeps with what could be described as a traditional Lovie. It’s a puppy dog barely holding a small blanket (JellyCat brand). It’s exceptionally sweet since her then 2.5 yo sister picked it out at Nordstrom and gifted it to her while at the hospital. These two lovies are the only things we MUST travel with.

You realize that sometimes a baby will become attached to the first stuffed animal or other item the parent puts in the crib with him/her? And that, in turn, becomes the child's lovey? Im confused on why you’re still getting them? We got them for baby showers, introduced one, and it stuck. They don’t get any more (except for a few of the same one so we can alternate it out for washings).

I meant intentional.

I posted above about my kids flat diaper lovey. That was intentional. I wanted to make sure I had something that I could have multiples of and rotate around.
