They serve different needs. I don't know about MS but in ES the children in the Asperger's program have a self-contained classroom as their homeroom. They stay there for reading, writing, and usually for lunch. They try to "push in" to mainstream classrooms for many other subjects. For resource services the children are assigned to general education and "push out" in small groups or individually a few hours a week for instruction in their area of need. It might be an academic need or it might be a social or behavioral need.

I contacted xminds I'll talk to them next week. One of the board member has his child in ARS in the middle school we might be assigned. I could benefit from her experience.

If the criteria for aspergerd program is being at least on level I don't think it will work for my kid but I'm taking my time to do the best choice.

Don't make up your mind now. The Asperger's program was designed for children who need more support than resource services. They may be able to make it work for your child. The Xminds people may have more insight and can offer more detailed advice. You might also want to email them and try to talk over the phone.

There are a lot of posts about the ASD program at Tilden. I used to teach there (loved it) and strongly suggest that you read all the related posts here so you bring very specific questions to the tour. Please understand that it isn’t a great fit for every kid with Asperger’s. There are students who end up leaving mid year or at the end of the year.
