We are generally a nap rigid family, but I think kids should learn that sometimes things happen too. With a two year old and a potential mom friend on the line I would definitely go.

My brother got married this past weekend and ceremony was at 2. I have a 3 yr old and a 20 month old. 3 yr old skipped nap entirely, 20 month old got about a half hour. It wasn't ideal but he did fine. One bad night isn't worth skipping out on the occasional experience that is worthwhile IMO.

Lol you are right. We will survive one bad day of nap.

We actually had a birthday party at our house this weekend at 2:30. I tried to put her down earlier and it backfired as it always does. She had a one hour nap and she was fine.

She is too old to be worn. Every time we try to put her down early, it backfires on us.

She does fall asleep in the car. Think she will have a car nap that day.

How old is she? My friend wears her smaller 3 year old on a regular basis,

I think this poster meant wear out as in exhaust, like run around the playground all morning and do an early nap.

Op here. I now see what pp meant by wear her out. I will try it.

Op here. My child has never missed a nap in her life. She has been consistently napping in afternoon since she was 18m. She just turned 2. She will be 26 months old at time of birthday party.

Wow. I cannot imagine a lifestyle where my child never missed a nap. At 2, she more often than not takes a 2-3 hour nap in her crib but sometimes she falls asleep while we are out and it becomes a short car/stroller nap instead. Then there is also travel, doctors appts and family events that have gotten in the way here and there too. Her nap time has also changed quite a few times in the last 2 years so on more than one occasion I agreed to something that should have been before or after nap time and in the days/weeks between agreeing to a time and the actual event her nap time shifted right to the time of whatever I agreed to do. So nap got punted to earlier, later or skipped altogether. I’m shocked you’ve made it this far without missing a nap but if this is a party I wanted to attend I’d attempt to put my dd down a bit early and then wake her to go.

Op here. We have 2 other kids. DH and I frequently split up on weekends and one parent stays home with napping child. Her consistent naptime has only been for the past 6 months or so. She used to nap twice per day and of course she would fall asleep in the car or wherever. On vacation, one parent goes back to hotel for naptime. We did this everyday at Disney and at a recent trip to the Caribbean. For her 2 yr doc appt, we had the choice of 7am or 1:30. We chose 7am.

I'd try to get my kid 1230-145/2 then head over and be a little late. But, my son is pretty flexible on his nap time. As long as he get 60-90 min somewhere between 12-4, he's usually good.

Depends if you thought you could get her down for a short nap at 12 or 12:30. I'd be inclined to skip it until my child was 3+.

If you like the mom, suggest a play date post nap one day.

I’d go. If it implodes just bail. At worst it’s one day of less sleep and maybe a tantrum. You’ll all recover. If she doesn’t handle it well you have a better idea of her nap missing resiliency.

Yes, but I was always flexible. I'd RSVP yes but say if child is cranky you may have to leave early.

Since you like the mom, you should go. It’s skipping one nap, cutting nap all together. I would be offended if I’m her and you don’t show up for what I consider to be a lame-ish reason.
