50 and retiring at 53. DH will be 59. Kids are grown and I have health issues, so DH and I will be retiring young(ish).

54 year-old Fed. Definitely working until 62, probably until 67. My grandparents lived into their 90s, and my parents are in their 90s. So I expect to have a long time after I retire to have fun (and also pay for things).

I’m 58 and have worked full time since I was 22. As a single parent I don’t have enough saved to retire any earlier than 67, but I’m just tired of the endless hours, commute, boss, etc.

Really? I don't get people who don't look forward to retirement?

I would like to work part time forever too, but only if I work for myself. If I could set my own schedule and hours and workload then that is ideal. I think the worst thing about being old, apart from failing health, is feeling like your productive years are behind you. I’d like to still be involved in my profession, but scaled back. It would also hedge against the rough transition phase and post-retirement identity crisis.

I am planning on retiring at 62. The day before DD graduates HS

I won't have any problem keeping busy! I could do so much at church and hopefully will have grandkids (I have older kids also) by then and I want to help.

Well yeah. Most of us would.

51, planning until I can collect full social security, so around 70. I might still want to work part time afterwards.

38 years old, female. I work part time right now. I plan on working at least part time well into my eighties. Theoretically, I could quit right now, but I like my work, and I don’t see that changing. If anything, it will be more enjoyable when I don’t feel pulled in separate directions by my kids.

I'm 61 and plan on working until 67. I was a late bloomer - didn't start working f/t until my youngest was in first grade. I enjoy working, so it doesn't feel like a burden to keep going.

Why are you all retiring so early? I am 47 and plan to work until 65 if I can... don’t know how I’d fill my days for a decade more than I need to (if I am lucky enough to live that long).

DH says 58 so he can get his pension. I will work FT until the mortgage is paid off and the youngest goes to college. After that, PT or I'll just be a housewife!

I'm 34 and work a 32/hr a week schedule now.

Still have another 23 years on the mortgage, but both kids will be out of college in 16 years. As long as we can cover health care, I'd like to exit the workforce right at 50 (my husband will be 62), but .. you know, life happens.

Me too. But realistically, until I'm dead.

Oh, and I'm 45, female, with one child in high school.
