Right, but he phrased it as MS assignments will "stay the same for Forest Knolls, Montgomery Knolls, and Pine Crest" - but are the FK3 and FK4 zones "Forest Knolls" or "Pine Crest"? If the recommendation is adopted, they will go to Pine Crest and if the Pine Crest MS assignment "stays the same" then those kids from FK3 and FK4 who go to Pine Crest should go to Eastern? Or, did he mean that the MS assignments will stay the same as they are now, creating a new MKES-PCES-SSIMS-Northwood zone? It's just a very confusing way of putting it in the report.
Agreed. The map is a little hard to read but if I understand it correctly, I believe that all of the neighborhoods currently zoned for Forest Knolls will still go to SSIMS and Northwood—just as they were before. Which is a shame In my opinion because it means some kids who became friends in Kindergarten through 5th grade will branch off into different middle schools and high schools and those friendships will sort of evaporate. I don’t like split articulation.

Agreed. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense, especially when you scroll down to the charts near the end of the document. And I work in education policy!

And Lee to Northwood and Kennedy. And Parkland to Wheaton and Kennedy. They say they don't like split articulation, but it happens a lot.

And yes, there is split articulation in the DCC already. SSIMS to both Northwood and Blair, and Sligo to both Northwood and Einstein.

Yup. This was discussed during several of the meetings. No good reason to move anyone from SSIMS to Eastern. But they were asked to develop the options showing both ES and MS reassignments. Hope Jack Smith recommends that the MS assignments stay as is.
FWIW, as far as I know there is no split articulation in the DCC. MCPS likes to keep kids together.
They may like to, but they can't in this case. All of the options in this study include split articulation. Either Pine Crest will articulate to both Eastern and SSIMS, or Eastern will articulate to both Blair and Northwood.

I agree, Option 3 seems like what will be recommended, but I think for the ESs only, leaving middle schools unchanged.
I hope so. Really not happy at the prospect of child having to get used to a new middle school in 7th grade.
+1. Got an email from MCPS today saying "The superintendent is scheduled to release his recommendation on this boundary study in mid-October."
