I think it is very serious. If my mom said that to me I think I would feel invisible. One of the moms I know says this to her 6 year old and I wonder what she is thinking. I cringe every time.

Same here. Also comments about how I've managed to clone myself.
A few of my friends from childhood think pictures of me as a baby/toddler/preschooler are my daughter and vice versa. Also, her personality is similar in some ways to mine at her age. I see it a little, but I think she's much prettier than I am/ever was.
The only person who doesn't think she looks like me is my husband/her father.
