. DC has always gone to a pediatric neurologist for his medications.Anonymous wrote:Our Psychiatrist has retired and referred us to one in Gaithersburg (we live in Vienna). This is not workable with DC traffic.
I am trying to find one locally who accepts our insurance. The situation has been quite stable -- same meds for a year. Would it be ok to ask the pediatrician? Or should I just bite the bullet at pay out of pocket for the Dr?
(DD runs out of the Adderall next weekend).

With just a simple search for a preferred provider I got a list of 453 psychiatrist 25 miles from Rockville, and around 40 child psychiatrists. Now for psychologist, that is a bit harder, but still found some awesome ones that take our insurance.
Unfortunately, their child psychiatry clinic is not taking new patients and does not keep a waiting list. How long ago did you start receiving care from Georgetown?
It was years ago with them. (6 years ago, I think) I wasn't happy with them, their psychiatrist kept upping meds on DS all the time and wouldn't listen to me that ds was not himself, and kept saying no he is just now himself on meds really? DS also has insane anxiety, and became unhinged on Prozac that she kept upping. And while I am an immigrant myself and have nothing against anyone, DS and I could barely understand her. She was an Asian woman with extremely heavy accent. I thought it was just me since I have a hearing impairment but DS(8th grade at the time) said he sits with her, can't understand her either and she did therapy too, and he just nods. There is another great clinic in Gaithersbrug, but they also had waiting lists at the time. I got lucky just by calling one by one, and kind of seeing for myself. I admit it is a trial and error type of Dr search. Co pay is $25 but it is worth it. Since then I found a private practice in Gaithersburg and both my kids see this one Dr, he is meds prescribing and then they have a therapist in Columbia. So, I admit it is not 2 miles from us either, but I only went like 5 names on BCBS list and this guy seemed to work. He would not prescribe ADHD meds without a full eval.
Can you please let me know what clinics/doctor's in Gaithersburg you found? TIA

You found a psychiatrist that takes insurance? If so, can you please share the name. I really hope your pediatrician can help you out with the prescription.
Ton of psychiatrists take insurance. In fact we never had a psychiatrist that didn't take our insouciance and DS had issue since 4 years old.
Can you please some names for the all the psychiatrists you know in the D.C. metro area that take insurance? This would really help a lot of us.

+1. Where are “ton of psychiatrists” who take insurance. Haven’t found one for adults or children.
I suspect that the pp who found “a ton” has specialized insurance like Tricare for military families.
We're thinking of moving to Maryland primarily to be able to access in-network mental health services. Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:OP here.
So, we have a new psychiatrist. This doctor seems to be more cognizant of issues of concern for a 16 yo girl, which is good.
She has the ADD meds now (sort of). She is also going to rework the antidepressants because the meds she was on can lead to weight gain.
DD has been upset about her weight, which has increased from about 125 to 145. Her diet is not bad, and she is active. Apparently, Abilify can do that.
Other good thing is the Dr is walking distance from the house.
So glad you found the right help. Do you mind sharing the name of the psychiatrist?
