I assume she is arguing with someone about not getting an 3rd row (probably DH who doesn’t want to drive at all and doesn’t know why she doesn’t carpool more).

Just observing, what puzzles me is that OP asked if there were social consequences but OP's life with kids seems to be pretty defined and nailed down so why even ask?

We had a Land Rover LR3 with a 3rd row which could comfortably seat 2 adults. We moved onto a Dodge Durango with 3rd row and no issues with 2 adults sitting in the 3rd row.

Same here. No need to drive the whole team...what a waste people and their SUVs. Ever hear about global warming?
