PP, assuming this was a real post, how did you find out about the abuse?

We had no problems with a Montessori male teacher in the mixed 3-6 year old room when our kids were there.

He was a great teacher. He was only there for one semester. He was the assistant teacher in our class and was promoted to the lead teacher at another branch of the same Montessori school the second semester. He's still there and doing well 4 years later.

Yes, it is more likely that males will molest children, but in preschool center with two teachers per room, it's much less likely.

So... umm...that means that no boys should ever get diaper changes if there are only female teachers (which is 99.9% the way it is) and also any boys who have a toileting accident shouldn't have anyone help them change their clothing, etc. because, again, most teachers are female.

Sucks to be a male in that school! Guess all the parents just come and change their boys every 3 hours? And pick up their boys if they have an accident?

+1. And in our preschool there is basically an open bathroom. There are two or three toilets lined up and no door, so the idea of bathroom privacy is very different, particularly since some kids still need help wiping.

My son had a male pre-K teacher. He was fantastic. Really had the warmest personality and amazing ability to connect with kids. He was immediately likeable. He was a great role model.

Why would this worry you?

I would not worry about someone just because they were a guy. But I think it’s ridiculous to say trust your gut. These pedos get away with it for so long because often they are charming and well-liked.

lol. men are literally 1,100% more likely than women to abuse kids. Look at some stats. It's fine to play the numbers, but I like to trust my gut.

Depends on the teacher. Meet with him. Catholic makes me worry, but there are a bunch of amazing male teachers at DD's school. One "specials" teacher I"m not crazy aobut, but she doesn't get him one-on-one ever.

I had a male kindergarten teacher -- so, just one year removed from pre-K. He was amazing -- caring and kind. I moved away after my K year and I told him I'd write him letters; he promised me that if I did, he would always write back. I wrote him for years. He kept his promise. He's long dead now, but his obituary told the tale of a truly good man and an outstanding early childhood teacher.

We also had a male nanny for our daughter. He cared for her starting at 3 months old, with enormous tenderness, protectiveness, and responsibility. Now she is five, and he's no longer our nanny, but he is and will always be part of our lives. He would lay down his life for our kid. He's more present in her life than some of our extended family members (sad to say, but true). He'll be there at her wedding.

All this to say: are there male predators in schools? Yes. Is every male in a school a predator? No.

If the rest of the school seems to be well-run -- the right safeguards in place, a vibe that tells you they're paying attention to the details and really know the kids well -- I would be totally okay with this. Trust your gut.
