I think her 'no makeup thing' is something she is only able to do now that she has clear skin. She already had beautiful bone structure and the highlighting/shimmer plays that up.

Jesus I had to google 'jade rolling'- what a load of steaming crap.

OP here. I see your point and can also see how the media played it up as more than she intended. When I posted I had just read an article about her statement back then about being real, raw, not caring what others think and then went into detail about her expensive face routine which includes make up and a make up artist and I thought wow, what is the difference besides color? And doesn’t this perpetuate the impossible standards that celebs/media set for women? Like, look at her with no make up and she is flawless - when in fact that isn’t the case at all. Anyway, good for her and yeah, at least it’s a reminder that great skin care/less makeup can be refreshing.

+1 this. Pretty sure she never said she was never, ever going to wear make up again. She said she was going to wear it when she felt like it (instead of feeling like she had to be made up to make a coffee run), and refused to be pressured into wearing makeup for photo shoot and appearances.

You are kind of proving the point. She didn't say or act like she was brave, she didn't even take a "no makeup stance". Her statements were that she wants to wear it when she wants, not when she doesn't. There is no dogma here except from the outside bc it seems that's not enough of an answer.

It's not the decision to go natural in itself. It's that she pretends that she is no longer succumbing to the pressures of what others think of her....because she is still putting an awful lot of effort into her looks.

^ and also, there is nothing wrong with trading an intensive makeup routine for an intensive skincare routine. She made different decisions for her time and her face. she fine skin care more liberating than makeup. I don't see the problem

What's your point? That she should have kept wearing make up after fixing her skin because...why exactly? Because she used to have to wear it?

It Is liberating when for a variety of reasons you don't have to do something anymore.

And let's not kid ourselves...good skin or not, she still gets hassled for going makeup-free so it still is a "risk" for her.

Yes, Alicia Keys is beautiful, but she looked silly with that thing on her head. And do we really want to encourage women in the US to look worse? Several websites and publications have been promoting big as beautiful, and quite frankly, it's not something that most people are interested in looking at.

she made the Grammys all about her. it got really tiresome. she could have given the stage to other artists who never get the chance, but she just had to be the center of attention.
