Yes I’m extremely depressed, I’m not always on here every minute of the day

I have a long commute, which is another stressor that I must deal with.

I just don’t have outside resources.

I just don’t want this life anymore, tired being a single mom with all responsibility on me at all times and I’m barely making it

I agree with the posters who suggest talking to the school social worker or counselor. They can provide you with information and resources that are available to your family. If your child doesn't already receive Free/Reduced lunch and breakfast, they can help with that paperwork. In VA, the before/after care fees are charged on a sliding scale based on income, so there may be some options there for you. Our ES has a food pantry for kids that need food -- they send a bag home with each eligible child for the weekend. If your school has something similar, you can talk to the school social worker about getting on that list.

People, OP did not say she doesn’t want credit cards. She said she does not own. There are many reasons why one may not own one even if they want to.

OP, i'm sorry you are going through this, but what is it you're asking for if not sympathy (online support) or money/resources? Your original post simply says you can't take care of your child. the gov shutdown broke you and you have no one.

Please come out and simply ask for what you are looking for? A lot of us can guide you and help you figure out what to do. But you're not telling us - just saying you're not asking for anything.

Ok now this is as backwards as can be. You have sympathy for those who spend money they don't have, but not for those who don't.

I'm guessing OP meant she can't afford after-care or before-care for her child. At 9, she could theoretically be latch-key...not ideal, but not terrible.

I think you guys should have more sympathy on the credit cards. Some people have trouble getting credit cards, especially if they had a previous bankruptcy and were unemployed. I know at least two people who had serious credit problems due to a former spouse that was mentally ill or addicted to something, who maxed out all the credit cards and forced them into bankruptcy. Really hard to get credit after that, particularly if you don't have a job (and OP indicated she just got hired into this position). I agree it's really important to get credit cards and build up your credit. OP, don't know your situation, but when you get a minute to breathe, try getting a low limit credit card and try to rebuild your credit.

9- year old should be at school. There are lots of restaurants that hire you on the spot as a waiter, host, busser or dishwasher. Many even have extra food you can take home. I don't understand why you can't afford your child though.
