You're kinda an idiot. If you dress appropriately it's fine. I end up peeling off layers on cold days because I dress to be comfortable for the first mile.

I can't fathom people so weak that not only don't exercise on days like that but that judge others.

Curious, OP, do you also think people who do other sports in winter (ski, snowboard) are crazy or being unsafe? because the one thing I always hear from skiers is that there are no bad ski conditions if you have the right gear. IMO running outside in winter/on cold days is the same; wear the right layers for your body and comfort level and you will be just fine.

This morning was a "runner's high" sort of morning. Cold, no wind, snow!! And very, very few other people around.

I'm glad many others don't like running in the cold, because it leaves more freedom for me to enjoy the beautiful winter wonderland solitude

Wow, what’s stupid is caring if someone wants to run outside. Or prefers to run inside. Who cares and it has zero impact on your life.

Personally I’m a bit of a cold runner so even with my layers and running outwear, I prefer not to run outside below 20. Not everyone feels the cold as much as I do though - I know my spouse doesn’t. I really hate the treadmill, especially if I am expecting to do a longer run. With work and young kids, I don’t alway have the flexibility to skip days or rearrange based on weather.

This is kind of silly, yeah? The OP asked the Q because she saw people running. so, presumably, there were people out there running. Respondents didn't come here and started thread about how they ran today-

I hate running with a passion, but as long as there is no ice, I know plenty of people who do run when it's this cold. 10 minute into my dog walk yesterday, with my base layers, everything but my nose was sweaty or warm.

It's totally fine, safe, and fun to be out in this kind of weather as long as you're dressed right

The cold isn’t the problem. You always warm up. What I consider when deciding whether to run outside is the wind and the terrain. In my area (I’m not in the DMV) it was REALLY windy so I planned my rest day around the weather forecast. If there’s a lot of ice and snow on the ground that hasn’t been cleared I also consider that. I’m not on a specific training plan at the moment either so it’s easier for me to choose to cross train than to have to run.

I run races to win so I’m not just out there getting in a 20 minute jog for fitness. If I’m out there in poor conditions it’s because I am following a specific plan and you don’t get to the top by skipping days the weather isn’t great.

The treadmill wakes my family in the mornings so I ran outside this morning and really enjoyed myself.

I ran today. It wasn't my ideal but it also wasn't that bad. I dressed in the appropriate number of layers and the only annoying part was that my glasses kept fogging up from my breath and then icing up. (Oh, and having it take 10 minutes to put on all those layers!)

I used to wimp out and use the treadmill whenever it dropped below freezing and I just don't want to do that anymore. So I bought some good cold weather gear. Running makes me feel like I have accomplished something. It's good for me physically and emotionally.

I used to be a runner and I always loved the feeling of having of how warm I could make/keep my body while running on the coldest of days. I somehow couldn't keep up with running after having kids and now do a lot of different exercises, but nothing feels as good mentally as running did.

Loads of peoppe run in the cold here in Montreal.
