Subject: Anyone use those fake shampoo/sunscreen bottles to bring alcohol on a cruise?
Are you 20yrs old? What is wrong with you? Just pay for drinks a la crate. How much do you drink that this is an issue? If you would rather drink liquor that has been in a plastic bottle than pay for 1-2 drinks each day on board maybe you have an issue.

Two different rooms. Which is why we were shocked that every adult on the same reservation must buy it, not just the same room.
But that doesn't matter, we're not buying it so not an issue.
Separate rooms do nothing to keep the occupants of one room who did buy the package from getting drinks for the people staying in the other room who didn’t.

DO NOT use a real shampoo bottle. REPEAT: DO NOT. No matter how well you rinse it, it tastes like soap.
The cruises do go through the bags and confiscate liquor (but they return it at the end). The cruise ships are familiar with most of the usual "fake" brands-- so look for something a little different.
The wine packages (like 5 bottles) are a much better deal than ordering single drinks in the dining room.
Liquor you purchase in duty free is delivered evening of the last day (so you can plan accordingly for the last day
).
The drink all you want packages are outrageous and they are not as "unlimited" as they appear-- all of them have some rules. (Although, even with the rules, I would never have gotten my money's worth.)
Make sure you have non-drinkers in your party (over 21) bring on the one bottle of allowed wine-- hand carry.

Alcohol isn't that expensive on cruises! It was like $5-7 a drink. Maybe that's expensive if you come from a low COL place but dh and I thought it was cheaper than DC

OP is being ridiculous and dishonest. A la carte is almost always a better deal. I'm guessing the cruise is about a week long and they are pricing the highest level package for 4 adults, 2 of whom don't drink. Only an effing moron would buy that package. A la carte is maybe $10/drink for most mixed drinks. How many is this joker going to have in a day? And assuming a week long cruise, I'm guessing at least 3 port days where they'll be off the ship, leaving only the evening to pound drinks. It's simple math that the package would be foolish.
What's dishonest about reporting what they require? If we were to buy just the beer and wine package, not the full alcohol with mixed drinks, etc., it's $65/day, then they add taxes and 20% gratuity automatically it comes to $546/person X 4 = $2184. You can't NOT buy all four adults. You click on it on the "manage your trip" section and all four of us adults are on there, plus they force us to buy my kid the soda package at $49.98. She doesn't drink soda, but whatever. But that's how it works. I'm taking this directly off the cruise check-in page that I had to create. It's a week, with three days off the boat, yes. That means, in my opinion, four relatively boring days sailing around....
I agree with you on one thing - only a moron would buy that package. I was incredulous which is why I started asking around.
What's dishonest? Sneaking alcohol onboard. Buy your drinks a la carte. Why is this even a discussion?

You all are harsh. I've never been on a cruise, hate the idea of it, trying to suck it up for my in-laws, for whom this will be their last vacation. They've moved into assisted living and are in failing health. This will be their last hurrah, and neither my husband nor I are cruise people and not exactly looking forward to that portion of it. But we're happy to spend the time with them.
From my friends who do cruise they say "oh, everyone sneaks it on." Then I saw this on the neighborhood listserv and thought, well, hell, with such a market for these products, people must really sneak stuff on I guess.

You all are harsh. I've never been on a cruise, hate the idea of it, trying to suck it up for my in-laws, for whom this will be their last vacation. They've moved into assisted living and are in failing health. This will be their last hurrah, and neither my husband nor I are cruise people and not exactly looking forward to that portion of it. But we're happy to spend the time with them.

FYI, I cruise every year, and my cruise friends all use these. They work fine. About 20 of us travel, and they bring on a lot of liquor. Saves a lot of money.

DCUM is full of hags who like nothing better than to harp on someone else for everything.
Seriously, the only "cruise" I've been on was with the Navy, and I have no desire to ever do one. If I were in your situation, I would likely do what you are. Just empty out a shampoo/conditioner or similar, or do the "feminine" wash bottle or similar. It would take a LOT of alcohol to get me through it, and I literally haven't had a drink in weeks (because I'm just living a normal life at the moment).
